Donnacha “The Don” O’Dea past record shows he has a winning bent

Irish guru poker player Donnacha “The Don” O’Dea has not only kept his flag flying in gambling but also in swimming. His career in poker is the most intriguing string of milestone achievements that his golden resume reflects.

He missed the World Series of Poker gold bracelet at slim chances in 1983 where he finished runner-up in his heat to Tom McEvoy in the $1,000 limit hold’em tournament. Playing regularly has seen him enrich his resume and also rise up the ladder in the poker industry. However, a closer examination of his resume demonstrates he is not only talented but has inculcated skills through his lengthy experience in the casinos.

His first final table at the WSOP’s Main Event came in 1983 placing 6th and also emerged 9th in a similar game in 1991. Years later, he has recorded cashes at the WSOP, in 1990 placing 32nd, 1994 for a 27th position, 1996 for a 25th place and recently in 2007 emerging 171st. His fortuitous WSOP gold bracelet slipped into his trophy portfolio in the pot-limit Omaha with re-buys where he ousted Johnny Chan in a heads-up encounter. (more…)

Ban online gambling online Poker carve out

Senator Harry Reid of Nevada is all set to prohibit online gaming. He also plans to dispose of the Wire Act in 2015. At the same time, he plans on carving exclusion – online poker.

The Senator is a former chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission and has never been in support of internet gambling however supports the thought of legal online Poker. He prepared a bill – Reid/Kyle Bill in the year 2012, however failed to push it through.

Reid told the Las Vegas Review-Journal this week that there will be a new push for a federal ban in the year 2015. He suggested that there may be steps taken to legalize Poker. He is of the view that online gaming is bad for children and an invitation to cyber crime. (more…)
